Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

This was an amazing experience. Excellent staff, quick check-in, good safety information, and the experience itself was surreal -- just imagine being in the water with an animal the size of a double bed below you, then watching it turn a flip right under you! Goggles (including some Rx goggles), wetsuits, flippers provided. Snacks are chips and sodas/water. Just bring a towel and they take the pictures. It's not much swimming, just a bit to get from the boat to the light table and back, so don't worry about getting exhausted. It's well worth doing and really unforgettable. Kids 13 and under must wear a life preserver vest on the boat. There are several other boats out there at the same time, but this one seemed the best size in that the group was 12. Another one was really quite large.

Four of us spent an evening with Chad and Dusty and the whole experience was one of the most memorable evenings of our lives. Dusty gave a fantastic and warm brief on the animal and his respect and love for them was obvious. Having arrived at the snorkel point and having been warned that the Mantas don't always come out, the first Manta arrived within seconds of us entering the water. We spent an hour under Chad's guidance observing these magnificent creatures. Chad was fabulously helpful to a couple of members of our party who were novice snorkellers. The Mantas swam inches away from us from us and the time spent with these magnificent creatures was something that will stay in our memories for a lifetime. From the moment of booking to returning to the harbour the company and staff were professional, courteous, friendly and passionate about their business, what more could you ask. The undoubted highlight of our visit to Big Island.

First off, we really liked this company and would recommend them to anyone. Captain Dusty and Keoki took us out and we got skunked but still had a great time. Once on board we were given another opportunity to try again and my wife and I took them up on their generous offer. The size of the tours were both in the 8-10 range and we were given lots of information about the Manta Rays and their behaviors during the snorkel. We were able to see 3 manta rays the second time out and it was a really neat experience. The tour took about 2 hours with about 30 minutes being in the water so we didn't stress out the mantas. I appreciated their concern for the animals and you could tell they love what they do. On the trip home we stared at the stars and ate snacks and drinks that were provided. Thanks Captain Dusty, Keoki and Jake for the awesome trips. Mahalo!
