Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We went on the late night manta day snorkel (7:30-9:30). I was a little concerned about jumping into the dark ocean at night but hey, it was worth a shot. So glad I did! The crew (Jake and Dusty) were very helpful and knowledgeable, answering any questions we had, not only about mantas but about other animals we might encounter and they were really just super cool guys. Plus they’re certified lifeguards (IIRC) which was really comforting to know. They took the time to explain all the gear and what to expect while we were making our way to the manta site. We were lucky and got an amazing show by one female ray. She hung out with us the whole time we were in the water and came right up to the light board, about an inch away from our faces sometimes. It’s something we will never forget and will definitely do again! Thanks guys!

The manta magic tour was fantastic! We got to see the manta rays from very close! Throughout the tour we were very well taken care of by our guides in a small group of only ten people. Those guys really do a great job! They know how to steer clear of the crowds so you can enjoy watching the manta rays in a familiar atmosphere. Plus, even better, they are green certified and really care about protecting the reef and the animals.

This was absolutely one of the best things I've ever done. I've always been scared to go in the sea, but Dusty and Keoki were so kind and professional that they completely put me (and my family) at ease. They explained about the Manta's we would see (hopefully) and how they live. All safety procedures were explained really well making us feel safe at all times. They were on and to help constantly, as well as being fun and humorous. Patient too! Nothing was too much for these guys and I can't recommend them highly enough. We also got to see the Manta's too. Absolutely stunning and they come so close to you, even touching you! But due to prior info and instruction from Dusty, you never felt threatened by these huge creatures. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience and we can't thank them enough.
