Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

A few lines in praise of this company. Friendly, professional and knowledgeable crew, safe and well appointed boat, altogether a very well run outfit. It is easy to see why they are rated so highly on this site. Oh, and the Mantas were just incredible - an experience that will stay with us for the rest of our lives. I booked this snorkeling trip as part of an early birthday present sister and myself. Our boat captain was Dusty and our guide was Dillon, both were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! We had so much fun, Dillon towed us to the best viewing spots when we were in the water and they even gave us extra time when a ray started dancing. I’m so glad they did as it came and rolled right under all of us! A simply magical night I know neither my sister nor I will forget! Thank you Dusty and Dillon!

The boat ride in the dark was enjoyable in itself, but the mantas were the stars! It took about 10-15 minutes for them to find us (actually, the plankton). We primarily saw one that was about 10 feet long that stayed around for the whole time we were out, doing repeated flips close enough to us to be touched. The guides were excellent and really helpful with the couple of guests who weren’t strong swimmers (floatation vests were available). Not much swimming was required, since the lighted raft was let out close to the boat. I would do this tour again on a future visit to the Kona area.
