Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

We did the tour on 16/3. We got to see a number of the majestic rays swimming around in the snorkel before the main event and then a good number of mantas right under us during the main feeding snorkel. There was an amazing finale when a massive manta did a number of feeding roles coming up right under our board, only inches from you! Our crew, Dusty and Dylan, were great and the smaller groups they take allowing them to be personalable and able to cater for everyone. It was also great to see that this tour company allows you ability to get up and close to these creatures but is also very respectful of them. A truly memorable experience and highly recommended. Thanks guys!

Nice ride out to the manta spot and saw spinner dolphins in the area. Great intros by Dusty and Ellison and they made sure our gear fit well and everyone knew the ropes. Started with a snorkel run before sunset and then they turned the light on. Immediately there were at least 3 huge mantas cruising around and then one of them started doing barrel rolls and kept getting closer and closer to the light and us! I actually had to push myself further away as I felt it would touch me. It must have rolled a dozen times and what a cool experience. Someone said it was a once in a lifetime experience but I plan on doing it again when I return. Plus they are very conscientious about the reef and its inhabitants.

There are tons of Manta Ray tours you can choose from. But why not use "the little guy".. We went out on March 16th with Jason (captain) and Dylan (tour guide).. They were both fantastic. Dylan stole the show though, he was super friendly, funny and engaging. It was a small group from 12 year olds to recent retirees, and everyone had a great time. We got into the water and around the float board, and within 2 minutes - no joke - I had a giant Manta ray swimming up directly towards me.. it seemed like he was going to swallow me, but at the last second he flipped onto his back and "barrel rolled" his wing actually slapped me on the ship as he swam past. unbelievable!!. WE then stayed int eh water for quite a while as 4 other mantas swam around us, often coming up to feed like the first one did.. amazing experience with a great team of guys. highly recommend doing the night time manta tour, and hopefully you get to go out with Dylan. (I hear Jason doesn't go out as much, as he's the owner)
