Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

Okay, so the ride out to the Sheraton was rough for this land lover, but the moment Captain Dusty and Chad yelled, "Head down, fins up!" and I dunked my mask in the ocean to see a manta's white belly 2 inches away from my face, I was all in. The barrel rolls of these mantas are ballet beautiful. Never mind these beauties look like B2 Bombers headed right for you. They are gentle and graceful and huge. I so appreciate Hawaii Oceanic's ethic when interacting with these giants. If you want to experience awe, join this crew, learn about these Big Island Mantas, and share in the magic.

This trip was an early family Christmas present from my folks. It was actually my mom who picked out this company because it was green listed and she wanted to give us a responsible as well as enjoyable experience. All I can say is a big Mahalo to Dustin and Chad (our captain and guide). What an amazing night. The trip consisted of myself, my husband and our kiddos (ages 10 and 8) plus 7 other genuinely easy-going folks. We couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Dusty and Chady were super helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. The manta rays really showed off their stuff that evening. We even had one manta ray do 7 full back-flips for us. One swam within 3 or 4 inches of my face and another brushed against my son's leg. It was definitely the highlight of our vacation and something we will remember forever. This was one of my life-list items and it did not disappoint. If we come back to the Big Island again, I would love to go out and do this trip all over.
