Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

This was amazing! There were only 6 people on our boat (max is 12, but we went during the off season) so we got lots of special attention. We left about 4:30 and got back about 8. The waves were choppy and it was cooler weather so I was glad they provided wetsuits. At first I didn't think we'd see any rays, but our guide pulled the float all around looking for them and we ended up having a great experience. I love that they take pictures and post them for us for free, and they were really knowledgeable and worked hard to make it a good experience, even for the beginners in our group. I totally recommend this tour to others!

I highly recommend this company for the manta snorkeling. Mainly because of three reasons: The guides, the fact that they are on the green list for manta experiences (they commit themselves to certain eco-friendly rules) and the small group size. The latter was the most important part: After our trip, we heard from our guides that the mantas didn't come to the normal spot the last nights and that many boat companies saw zero mantas all night. Because of our small group size we were more flexible. Thus, when the guides realized that the "real manta magic" wasn't gonna happen at the normal spot, we moved a bit on the ocean. Finally, the mantas came incredibly close, almost touching us. It was really a once-in-a-lifetime-experience. Additionally, you get FREE photos made by the guides. Especially good if u dont have a gopro or something like that.

We took the Manta Ray night snorkel with Hawaii Oceanic in mid October. It exceeded all expectations (which were pretty high anyway). The Captain and crew were great and took excellent care of everyone. We were fitted with wet suits and prescription masks, and there were flotation aids available for under-confident swimmers. This is a green tour and the crew were enthusiastic, knowledgeable about, and respectful of the Mantas and other sea creatures. We arrived at the snorkel site about 40 mins before sunset and were able to enjoy a daylight snorkel for about half an hour and saw our first 2 mantas and a monk seal. Amazing. When it began to get dark we came together and used a communal float to make sure we stayed horizontal and didn't come into contact with the Mantas to ensure that they are protected. We were lucky to see about 8 mantas coming up really close and doing their acrobatics - so graceful, so majestic, so big! An evening we will never forget. Hawaii Oceanic take photos of the experience - something not widely offered and a great bonus.
