Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

This is a must do activity in Hawaii. Absolutely fantastic. A green activity which means Hawaii Oceanic were very respectful and careful not to cause damage to the environment or injury to the manta rays by not allowing to touch the animals. We had a group of three mantas up very close and personal as they fed on plankton, doing flips and turns within millimetres from us. A definite bucket list activity. Excellent

We knew when we booked our adventure that we would not be an easy group. We ranged from 11 years old to 74 years old. Our experience ranged from never having snorkeled to SCUBA certified. And then there were our health challenges - artificial knees, torn shoulders, apparently two with heavy sea sickness, and also a news flash that two had a degree of claustrophobia. Yep, we put them through quite the test. And they came through with high marks all around! Dustin and Dillon, thank you for your patience and support. You were fantastic! And the Manta Rays put on quite the show for us, too. Our snorkeling experience before the Mantas was really brief but a great way to get everyone (almost) comfortable with the water and their gear. The sunset was spectacular as we floated in the water waiting for the green flash. There were oodles of other manta ray seekers on the water with us, but our lighted raft attracted more than a half dozen manta rays - one even rubbed bellies with my dad (despite his efforts to suck in and lift out of the water). Thanks again Dusty and Dillon for an enjoyable night! Next trip, we'll have to do the dolphins.

We (mom, dad, adult kids and girlfriends) did the Manta Ray Night Snorkel and it was everything it was billed to be! Hawaii Oceanic emphasizes their eco-credibility and it would appear rightly so. Felt good to be with an organization committed to protecting the amazing eco-system we experienced. Getting out to the reef early so as to anchor on the buoys and not drop anchor on coral allowed us to experience some wonderful snorkeling prior to the "main event". The manta ray's were magical, and warnings not to touch them, which seemed unnecessary in advance, were very real when they swam so close you felt you had to arch your body to stay out of their way. Truly was something very special to see. Definitely a major highlight of a spectacular time on Hawaii.
