Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

What a wonderful thing to do! So worth it! Got to see soooo many fish underwater and we got to see a lot of Manta Rays! And they came so close to us- one even grazed my knuckles with its belly! Definitely lives up to the hype!

There were at least 5 manta rays and they came so close to all the individuals in our group. The best part of the tour besides the crew was sharing this experience with my daughter.

Would not suggest without ability to know if they've been seeing a manta ray in past days. From time we left docks they were saying " IF we see ONE" Don't be discouraged it takes time to build up plankton, looks like we need to build up more plankton!!! Then we left before others without seeing one!! But they kept repeating that the One Ray usually appears!!! ONE.... really the ads should state as such!!! I felt ripped off. We spent $380 for nothing!! They allow you to come back as many times as needed. But who visits Kona that often? We ran into people at hotel pool who had tried 2x and seen nothing feeling the same. Too bad. I'm not sure about other locations but this one was not good.

Aloha - as we state on our website, we see manta rays about 92% of the time, which means 8% of the time we do not see manta rays. We saw manta rays the night before your tour, as well as the night after your tour. These are wild animals that live in the ocean, and we can not predict with 100% accuracy whether we will see them on any given tour. It is common for manta rays to not appear immediately, and then appear later as we accumulate plankton under our light board. On a typical night, we will see 1-3 manta rays, and it's an incredible experience, which is why we have so many positive reviews. Some nights, we see more than 3 manta rays. And, unfortunately, there are rare nights when we don't see any manta rays. For that reason, we always recommend booking the manta ray tour early in your trip to Kona, so you have time to rebook your tour (for free) in the rare instances when we don't see manta rays. With anything in life, our expectations determine how we view different experiences. In this case, this guest had misguided expectations that a tour company can accurately predict with 100% confidence that wild manta rays will appear in the ocean, and they were disappointed as a result of misguided expectations.
