Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

What a fun way to spend my evening. I very much enjoyed the time I spent on the water looking for manta rays. We only saw one but she stayed with us the whole time and swam right by my face numerous times. It was so peaceful laying in the water as this playful ray swam in circles under us. Hunter was our guide and kept us entertained with Manta Ray facts as we waited for them to appear and then put us in a perfect spot to see one.

Positives - Everyone was very friendly and knowledgeable. Even though we only saw one manta for less than a minute, they did their best to find them for us. Negatives - My husband's mask leaked the entire time. They acknowledged that they knew this mask was typically a problem, but for some reason, they were still giving it to customers. Overall, save your money and go with a larger group tour. We ended up forming a larger group with others anyway. The boat ride is only 5 minutes, so boat overcrowding isn't an issue.

Aloha - thank you for your feedback. On most nights, the manta rays stick around and we see them throughout the tour, but there are rare nights when we either see them briefly or don't see them at all. These are wild animals that live in the ocean, and we can not control how many show up, when they show up, or how long they stick around. As a result, each tour is different, and we have amazing experiences at least 92% of the time. Regarding the leaking mask, this is typically an issue with facial hair, where facial hair can break the seal. If you have facial hair, vaseline can help with the seal. Separately, some masks fit different face shapes more effectively. If a mask doesn't fit due to shape, we can swap it out with a different mask. In the rare instance we have a mask that leaks because it is defective or broken, we always discard and replace it. Our gear is new and constantly being replaced to ensure a positive guest experience. We apologize for the inconvenience of the leaky mask.

Aloha - this is a manta ray tour, and as you noted, the manta rays were awesome! This should be a 5-star review based on the manta ray experience, and we're not sure what else you were expecting to see on a manta ray tour. Regarding ocean temperature, some people find it to be a little cold, which is why we provide wetsuits and allow our guests to go back to the boat if they are uncomfortable in the water for any reason.
