Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

Referred by friends who did this previously, we knew this was a MUST experience for my wife and me while on the Big Island. This crew was really supportive, knowledgeable, and professional throughout. They are great with any swim & snorkel experience levels and take care of you from start to finish. The night we went was especially incredible, due to the large number and size of the mantas that showed up. The crew seems to know them all pretty well and have nicknames for most. We got a real education in manta rays while watching them filter-feed right in front of us. An experience that's difficult to describe, other than to say it was a total thrill. Very short boat rides to and from location. Would do again in a heartbeat and we are suggesting this to anyone going to Big Island Hawaii (the only place in the world manta rays do this).

This was an amazing experience. I went with my husband and 2 boys. All of the staff were wonderful, from the land crew who got us ready to the boat crew. We had so many manta rays coming by the entire time. We even saw some juvenile African Pompano fish. The manta came so close that I was bumped by them a couple times. I liked that this snorkel tour had a limit of 12 people, so we had plenty of attention from the staff and the manta ray. I wish I had taken anti-nausea meds before we left. I thought I would be fine, but near the end there was a lot of rocking (assuming from other boats coming into the area). They had drinks and snacks for after, which settled my stomach quickly though. If you’re going to Kona, you absolutely need to do this!
