Mendenhall Glacier Lake Canoe Tour

Overview
Experience the beauty of the Alaskan wilderness on this 3.5-4 hour adventure to the Mendenhall Glacier. This adventure starts off at the cruise ship docks as an expert guide will transfer the guaranteed, small group on a narrated 30 minute journey to the West Glacier boat launch in the Tongass National Forest. Guests gear up in top quality waterproof gear and after a quick paddle lesson, will launch the canoe onto the Mendenhall Lake to start the journey. Surrounded by steep cliffs filled with Arctic terns, mountain goats, porcupines, and other wildlife; enjoy the serenity of this adventure deep into Alaska. Feel the cool brisk air coming off the glacier as the guide safely navigates the canoe to the best viewpoints of the blue crevasses and seracs on the toe of the Mendenhall Glacier. Be one of the few to step away from the crowds and get face to face with glacier. This Tour is canoeing only and DOES NOT INCLUDE hiking on a glacier.

We thoroughly enjoyed canoeing across the lake, seeing the views up close and hiking on the glacier. Excellent guides, Alpine Abby and Glacier Grant made it so fun. We liked this active adventure!

We booked this tour on our own during a northbound Alaska cruise. In doing this we experienced more than about 99.9% of the people on our ship who just went to the visitors center. We enjoyed our canoe paddle across the lake and back as well as the information we learned from our guide. I'd definitely recommend this activity above all others while in port in Juneau. We paddled relatively close to the glacier and right up to the falls. It was a blast! FYI: It is a physical activity with about 2 hours of rowing. Juneau is in a temperate rain forest so it's likely to rain and it did on us for about half the trip. The tour company provided rain gear though so we stayed dry underneath. If you can handle the physical activity, definitely do this.

This was our familyā€™s highlight (parents and young adults) of all our port of call experiences. Abby our tour operator was informed, positive and encouraging. We highly recommend her! And even though we had had fantastic glacial viewings when our ship cruised Glacier Bay, being up close and personal-within a couple hundred yards from our canoe of Mendenhall was unexpectedly breathtaking to glory in its face in silent wonder.

The silence of the Alaskan wilderness is something we think everyone visiting Alaska should experience. We are so happy to be a part of your family's Alaskan memories. Thank you.
