What To Expect
1
Aunt Sally's Pralines
Start your day on the sweetest of notes at a historic praline-makers shop to sample this Southern confectionary treat.
2
Garden District
During the late 19th century, as New Orleans started to fully enjoy its prosperity, wide-lot homes of opulent nature began to arise where once plantations sprawled. Wander through the streets, as harmless insects buzz about, ferns sway on porches and these southern belles lounge about.
3
Lafayette Cemetery No.1
Peek into one of America’s most historic graveyards - Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 with its famous family plots and gray stone mausoleums. Here your guide will share some intriguing stories on the practical difficulties of building and maintaining a cemetery below sea level. Please note: Access to the cemetery is currently prohibited to all guests. Full cemetery tour will be given from outside the gates.
4
Elms Mansion
As you return to the wide avenue of St. Charles, wander a bit more to end your tour in front of the Elms Mansion, one of the best-preserved old Southern mansions in America. As your time with your guide draws to a close, reflect on the beautiful, often troubled history of New Orleans and celebrate the preservation to keep this special corner of the world for all to enjoy. Please note: Access to the Elms Mansion may occasionally be unavailable. In this case, you will receive an extended Garden District tour.

We enjoyed our walk through the Garden District and liked the guide very much. However, I would call this a low information tour. Minimal to no information about much of the area we covered. I'm not all together sure about the accuracy of some of the dates and historic information offered. Also, the Cemetery is not included in the tour, and as a a matter of fact has been closed to the public for quite some time. Stopping in front of it for 2 minutes does not a cemetery tour make. The home we toured was very nice, but I think it was atypical of most of those in the area, and not a great representation of Garden District style and decor. While some elements of home remain, this has primarily become an event center for weddings, parties, etc. Overall, I enjoyed the tour, but with an area such as this so full of history, folklore and culture, I was disappointed that we didn't hear a more detailed presentation.

Hello JimMGainesville, Thank you so much for reviewing your experience with us on our Garden District tour. While we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your walk with our guide, we are disappointed to learn that it wasn't as informative as you would have liked! We work hard to structure our tours in such a way that they are both entertaining and enlightening, shedding new perspective and insight on the sites that we visit. Additionally, we are very sorry about the disappointment that you experienced upon your visit to Lafayette Cemetary! It is a usual inclusion for this tour, however, we have had to abbreviate our coverage of it since it was closed for maintenance late this last year. We anxiously away the day that we can lead our groups inside it once more! Again, we are so sorry that we didn't meet your expectations for this tour. Your feedback and comments are greatly appreciated, and we will take them into consideration as we move forward into the future. We hope that the rest of your visit to New Orleans was enjoyable and that you will return again to visit us next time! Kind Regards, The Walks Team

We had a pleasant tour around the district today learning history and architecture of the Gsrden District. The coffee shop break was a nice stop. We were disappointed to not get inside the cemetery, but Timothy still gave us a quick talk on it. The visit inside the Elms house was a delight!
