So here is my review of the sailing I booked. Sail time was for 2 hours. We were to set sail at 4 pm. We didn’t board until 4 pm and had to wait for others to board as it was a full sail. We got started around 4:15 and motored almost all the way to the statue. We did hoist the sails but it was as we were closer to the statue. We came about at the statue and pretty much motored back. We hardly sailed and we arrived back at 5:30. When asked why it said bc of the storm but there was no storm. So basically I paid a lot of money to motor for 1 hour and 15 mins. This was not what the description stated. The crew was nice. Wouldn’t go again! I paid for 5 people!

As someone familiar with NYC this did exactly what I wanted : a trip on the water on a beautiful day for a couple of hours and without any commentary. The yacht is comfortable and characterful. Although the sails were up there will little actual sailing without the aid of the motor (it was more a hybrid operation) but this was really no surprise because if we had been at full sail we might have times been at full tilt which could have been too uncomfortable for some passengers. I made a mistake in pre-paying for the drinks upgrade : the "champagne" (my selection) was ordinary quality and there really wasn't the time to want more than one top up beyond the first included drink. It would have been more sensible and cost effective to pay per top up.

We do try to sail as much as we can but sometimes if we have a heavy wind (or little wind) or if we are against a very strong current we need to use our engines as we want to make sure we can get everyone out to the Statue of Liberty. An awesome trip down the Hudson in an actual sailboat with cocktails - a Saturday doesn't get any better. The weather was cloudy unfortunately, but that didn't spoil our trip. Breathtaking views of Manhattan and Jersey City and sailed right up to the Statue of Liberty. Was really a great experience. The captain and crew were amazing. Will certainly try some of the other cruises Classic Harbor Line has to offer.
