Old Town Key West Literary Walking Tour

Overview
Join us every weekend for the Old Town Literary Walking Tour, a stroll through downtown Key West, illuminating stories of writers that have called our island home. Inspired by David A. Kaufelt’s original literary walking tour, our new tour features the former homes and favorite haunts of writers, including Tennessee Williams, Shel Silverstein, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Frost, and highlights tales of our lesser-known local talent.

Our guide, 15 year resident of Key West was very knowledgeable about the authors and the background of their homes and lives. She had visual aides depicting the writers and recited several of their quotes that added to the background of the tour. Very informative and well presented. Worth the time and the investment.

Sarah's tour was lively (and projected enough for even this deaf one); not too much Hemingway and a wonderful ending with E. Bishop (usually overlooked in KW) with a poem and discussion of her significance as the kind of writer drawn to and supported, and ultimately, to survive, driven from KW. (Of course, the tour is expensive for some of us, but it drew a large group this past Sat.) (Also glad to see where Pauline H's shop was on Caroline St., since EB's housemate and partner Marjorie Carr Stevens was PH's business partner before and after WWII.)

Enjoyed this walking tour of Key West. We didn't walk by the Hemmingway House or the Dorothy Parker house, which was a bit disappointing. However, our guide, Sarah, was very knowledgable, and we learned a lot about Key West's literary scene. A nice tour overall.
