Old Town Key West Literary Walking Tour

Overview
Join us every weekend for the Old Town Literary Walking Tour, a stroll through downtown Key West, illuminating stories of writers that have called our island home. Inspired by David A. Kaufelt’s original literary walking tour, our new tour features the former homes and favorite haunts of writers, including Tennessee Williams, Shel Silverstein, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Frost, and highlights tales of our lesser-known local talent.

If you want a truly unique look at Key West, go no the Literary Walking Tour. You know Hemingway made Key West his home, but until we took this tour, I had no idea that writers like Ralph Ellison or John Hersey lived and worked here. Shel Silverstein did a great deal of his writing on William Street, and Judy Blume still calls this beautiful place home. Take this tour! You'll be so glad you did.

A really fantastic, free flowing tour of the city and insightful, off-the-beaten-path details and anecdotes about the many very real characters and individuals that have contributed to Key West's history past and present. It definitely helped me orient myself to the island, it's neighborhoods and geography that was helpful the rest of my trip, and it was a great conversation between the guide and those on the walk. It was recommended to me by a local friend who lives in Key West, and I would definitely recommend as well. The ticket money also helps support those in the arts, so that's awesome too.

I joined guide Sarah on this tour April 6th, 2018. It was wonderful! I have visited Key West several times over the last 11 years and have become fascinated with the rich literary history of the island. This tour did not disappoint! I learned so many new things. I laughed AND became teary (3 times!). This tour is a must!
