Old Town Key West Literary Walking Tour

Overview
Join us every weekend for the Old Town Literary Walking Tour, a stroll through downtown Key West, illuminating stories of writers that have called our island home. Inspired by David A. Kaufelt’s original literary walking tour, our new tour features the former homes and favorite haunts of writers, including Tennessee Williams, Shel Silverstein, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Frost, and highlights tales of our lesser-known local talent.

My visiting friends and I thoroughly enjoyed Sarah's walking tour. Her enthusiasm was infectious and, although I've lived in Key West for over 20 years and love to read and was somewhat familiar with the many authors who have called Key West home, I learned a great deal more about their varied writing and living experiences. My friends regarded this tour as a real plus to their Key West stay. And we all look forward to some great reading by authors who are now more personally familiar. Thanks to Sarah for reviving David Kaufelt's walking tradition.

Sarah Beth took us on a fascinating and informative tour of intellectual KW. This long tradition of world class writers calling KW home is not all about Hemingway, may he Rest In Peace. A host of authors, poets and essayists continue to find inspiration and fellowship in the people and culture here. Sarah mixed anecdotal back stories on this cast of characters with quotes from their works. She also was respectful of current writer’s homes, mindful of their privacy. Our only regret, upon learning about the Key West Literary Seminar held each year in January is that it sells out within minutes. Can’t they enlarge or extend this opportunity to see and hear from contemporary authors? None the less, we thoroughly recommend the literary tour, a unique aspect of charming and free-spirited Key West.

Thank you Sarah! The walking tour was over the top and we loved the stops along the way filled with history about the writers of Key West. The tour was informing, inspiring and funny. We enjoyed the glimpses into the writers personal lives and all of the homes and bars they frequented. Without a doubt, it was our favorite, and we managed to fit in five tours during our stay. Our group left wanting more!!!
