Old Town Key West Literary Walking Tour

Overview
Join us every weekend for the Old Town Literary Walking Tour, a stroll through downtown Key West, illuminating stories of writers that have called our island home. Inspired by David A. Kaufelt’s original literary walking tour, our new tour features the former homes and favorite haunts of writers, including Tennessee Williams, Shel Silverstein, Elizabeth Bishop, and Robert Frost, and highlights tales of our lesser-known local talent.

... and who better to sponsor it than the Key West Literary Seminar (KWLS)?! David A. Kaufelt, who founded the KWLS, initiated literary walking tours as a part of the annual seminar. Sarah was a great guide. I appreciated the anecdotes she shared about the many writers who have been drawn to Key West, photos of the authors, and the numerous excerpts about Key West from their poems and letters she used to round out the picture. Included: Shel Silverstein, Thomas McGuane, Tennessee Williams, Robert Frost, Ann Beattie, Wallace Stevens, Judy Blume, Audubon, Elizabeth Bishop, Jimmy Buffett, and of course Hemingway. She also pointed out one of 19 Sidewalk Poems - a new literary addition to KW.

Sarah T. is a tremendous ‘toury’-teller! She is highly motivated and mobile. (She can walk backwards and simultaneously weave a tale!) Ms. T. Is extraordinarily versed in idyllic Island literary lore fact and fascination. It was truly a scholarly stroll with a vivacious vocalist. Don your sneakers and get ready to walk and learn. This is a Key West must-do! :)

Our guide Sara (a budding novelist in her own right) gave us a wonderfully informative and engaging tour of KW literary sites and stories. I've spent 20 years in Key West, and learned something new from her on every block during our 1.5 hour stroll of Old Town's streets. Well done Sara!
