Letās start with the positive, the captain, Jake, was friendly, knowledgeable, and as helpful as he could be under the circumstances. If I were to rate him, it would be 5 stars.
Unfortunately management of Outer Island Excursion informed us at the last minute when we were standing on the dock of a booking mistake. There were not enough people on the boat to make it profitable. They offered a shortened trip to unproductive fishing grounds or a refund.
I came 3000 miles across the country to Orcas Island in part to enjoy a salmon fishing trip and this was my last day on the island. They had already bumped me from a previously scheduled day to this one because they didnāt have a large enough group to fish. The other party on the boat had a 5 year old son who was eager to fish. So cancellation was out of the question. Since it was their fault that they made a booking mistake, we asked for a reduced price, but they wouldnāt budge. At any price, but particularly at a cost of $250, I expect a company to value a customerās experience. Predictably, the trip was a bust and we only caught 1 salmon despite the fact that there were productive fishing grounds which we scheduled to fish in the original booking. Incidentally, we went with the same company on a Whale Watch the evening before and witnessed rude treatment of customers at the check in counter.
