We had a perfect day for a long boat ride. Sunny skies and calm seas. Our crew did a great job of explaining what would happen and what we would see. Drew, the captain, navigated us to the orcas and kept us in sight of them for almost an hour. Alex and Ellen shared a lot of great information about all the creatures we saw. Thanks for a great trip! The crew also asked for feedback--they mentioned that everyone would take turns moving around the boat and see from different spots. We could have used an announcement from the crew to make that happen. No one moved from their spots, so my wife and I had to maneuver a little bit to get a good look. One last thing--thanks for the reminder to tip the crew. We were astounded at how many people skipped that part. They work hard to make a living. If you take one of Outer Island Excursions whale watching trips, please plan to bring enough money along to tip the crew. They deserve it!

Went on this lovely excursion with my grown daughter, her husband and 2 grand kids ages 9 and 11. Everything was superb. The weather, smooth water, and the numerous orcas. We saw some humpbacks, too. Heather, the naturalist, was chatty and full of info. I believe the captain was Andrew, very funny and competent. The boat was a nice size, inside and out. Comfortable bench seating. Be sure to bring your own snacks and beverages. Grand kids rated this experience a definite 10!!

I actually did two activities with this outfit and they were both great. The first day I did the Whale watching. We had a full boat of about 30 passengers. There was one large group who were locals with some out of town guests celebrating some birthdays. It made the whole experience even more fun with this group. We got to see 5 different humpback whales and followed 3 of them for a bit. Things I learned... the first departure time (10 am) is when the first eyes are on the water to find the whales. The later the departures in the day have an idea of where the whales are. Second, all whales are named! I thought they were kidding at first but nope. Third, I concur with others that if you want to sit upstairs in the open air you get an amazing unobstructed view, but you will want to bundle up. The wind on the drive out can be cold. We did get to see bald eagles and lots of other animals too. Second day I did the early kayaking trip. It was fun, you stay close to the shore line (no whale sightings). We saw a mink, seals, and quite a few more bald eagles. It was a nice relaxing day. (Recommend bringing water shoes for The kayaking trip)
