Our trip was a full day guided kayak during which we ferried out to Sucia Island, from Orcas, and then circumnavigated Sucia. We lucked out with the weather, sun and calm waters, and our guide, Paul, who was quite pleasant and knowledgeable about the islandā€™s history, flora and fauna. Definitely recommend Outer Islands for a great kayak trip. They also do whale watching tours and we are thinking about that for our next trip to Orcas.

My fiancee and I wanted to go whale-watching on our trip to Orcas Island. Although a slight bit pricier than their competition, Outer Island Expeditions boasted a more personalized experience by way of a smaller group so we chose to book with them. Beau, our captain Joe, and the rest of the staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the part of nature we were there to explore. The trip was engaging and fun for a nautical novice like myself and we were fortunate to not only see numerous Orca whales in their natural habitat, but also seals, sea lions, and even an elusive Minkee whale. The experts at Outer Island Expeditions used their vast knowledge of marine life behaviors to give us an experience that exceeded our expectations. Our small ship (two other couples along with ourselves and the captain) allowed us more socialization and one-to-one discussion with Joe who answered all of our questions with expertise and conviviality. We highly recommend this 3-4 hour trip as an addition to anyone's San Juan Islands itinerary. Thank you Outer Island Expeditions for a great time!

We got lucky with orcas as soon as we got out into the Strait after about 30 minutes. We then spent the next 2.5 hrs watching 40-50 different whales! While seeing that many whales isn't really "provided" by Outer Island - what was nice was their service! They responded immediately to email inquiries months ago, called back right away to make reservations and tell us about a 10% discount for cash. Then he sort of just rounded it and gave us another couple dollars off instead of dealing with $1 bills and change. Their floatation quality jackets also saved us from worrying about being cold out on the water.
