We were able to walk to most of the sites from our hotel, the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, but chose to take the Night Tour with BigBus. Note this tour is not a hop on and off, but truly a tour. The loading site was right outside the hotel which was convenient. After a hot day of walking, the cooler evening air on top of the bus was refreshing. Our guides, J & J ( I don’t recall their names but they referred to themselves as the two Js.) were extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. We saw portions of the city we did not know existed. The highlights of the trip included a stop at the Museum of Art where they encouraged us to run up the steps and the view of the Liberty Bell at night. This is a tour I would do again.

We have used hop on hop off buses in lots of the world's great cities and this tour of Philadelphia was one of the best that we have done. We did the tour right round first to accustom us to the city. Our guides were very knowledgeable and informative so that we then continued our visit by stopping at three different stops to see more of the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross' house and the Catholic St Peter and St Paul Basilica and the Philly Mint and in each case we were able to catch a later bus with different guides - each of which gave a slightly different slant to the sights of the city. All recommended the Reading Terminal to eat at and we did so and it was excellent. This turned into a really good tourist day of the lovely city of Philadelphia.

This was a very good bus tour with very knowledgeable guides on board. When it rains (as it did for us on February 10), the buses have a clear roof for guests to enjoy the scenery. You can get on/off at any of 24 stops in the city. The only thing that I did not care for was that the staff did not warn us about local entrepreneurs at the Rocky statue “volunteering” to take group photos for an implied “tip”. They do not appear to be employees of the bus company or the Art Museum, and I would recommend that you get a fellow bus customer to take your group photo at the statue.
