We took a morning trip on the Privateer last week. it was a perfect morning. Leaving from Mission Bay instead of San Diego Bay saves so much time so we had more time to look for whales. We saw about 5 grey whales, one breached and we also saw two fin whales. It was incredible! The crew was great and informative. This boat is not huge, I think it was a good size for families. I will go out on their boat the next time i go whale watching. So interesting that you can see these amazing creatures so close to shore but so many people choose to go to Sea World to see them do unnatural tricks. Save your money and spend on a whale watching excursion instead. We also so hundreds of dolphins and sea lions.

We took the morning cruise from 10:00 - 1:00 on a beautiful sunny calm day. We had taken some motion sickness meds prior to the cruise. We had a great time and saw about 5 grey whales and a mother baby combination. The marine biologist we had on board was very informative and told us so much about grey whales and their life. She answered all questions well. Dress for the temps it was cooler out on the water, especially when the captain headed into the wind to head north to find more whales. The captain and crew were very professional and pleasant. We're in San Diego for a month and we might take another cruise. By the way Tuesdays are 2 for 1 day.

This was a great trip! We got to see a baby humpback whale up close. It swam all around the boat for about 15 minutes. We also saw 5 grey whales. The crew were friendly and knowledgeable. We're definitely going to go back. Make sure you arrive about 30 minutes early so you can get in line. We sat in front so we could go between the port (left) and starboard (right) sides easily to see the whales as they moved around.
