Our trips depart from Mission Bay, which requires only a short 10 minute journey access to the open ocean where whales and dolphins can be seen! The search for whales and other animals begins as soon as you depart the dock and our marine biologists are on the microphone explaining exactly what to expect and what you are seeing from the get go!

The crew from SD Whale Watch on their boat, the Privateer, showed me Blue whales, dolphins, and a rare ocean sunfish during a 3 hr cruise out of Mission Beach off San Diego's coastline. The naturalist explained everything about the creatures we were seeing. Even in the Bay he identified the various birds and sea lions. Entire crew was professional, personable, and funny. I cruised on "2 for 1 Tuesdays", which only cost me $22 ! Next time I return to SD I am signing up for the 8hr whale watching tour.

One of our friends went on this boat a week ago and recommended we go. I didn't have high expectations but they were exceeded by a lot. The boat left ontime and the crew we so friendly and helpful. They really wanted you to enjoy your experience and it showed. They offered sea sick tablets on board and they had a concession stand for anyone who wanted a snack/beverage. We saw multiple sea lions (one was playing around the boat before we left), a sun fish,all kinds of birds and whales 8 up close and many more in the distance. At the end a pod of dolphins showed up and played with 2 blue whales that were swimming around our boat with the grand finale of a double fluke! The whole trip was amazing and all the sightings were guided by a marine biologist so it was extremely informative. We went mid week and the day was mostly cloudy so bring a sweater to keep warm!! We were up the front of the boat which was great because they pointed the boat towards whales so we always got a good view. The ship tips a bit when everyone moves to one side but it was ok. Otherwise go and enjoy the show nature will put on for you.

We took the 3 hour trip on Thurs., 10/8. Climb aboard the Privateer for a trip to remember! The boat is clean, the crew is great and our fellow passengers were fantastic and fun!!! The trip out to the feeding grounds was great; it was nice to see more than the San Diego skyline from the water (harbor tours). We saw pelicans, seals, sea lions and then a giant sunfish just beside the boat. As we approached the feeding grounds excitement rose with the first sighting of a blow!! If you've never seen a whale up close be sure to put it on you bucket list, do it and then cross it off!! The bonus came for me when seeing the dolphins swimming with the whales! A great trip was had by all and I will HIGHLY recommend S D Whale Watcher!!
