What a spectacular experience we had with the 3 hour whale watch! We saw 10 blue whales close, and 5 or 6 more far away (just spouts). We saw about 150 dolphins, and a bunch of brown pelicans, sea lions and a bunch of birds. Our day was overcast and the water was very choppy, so the crew advised us all to take motion sickness tablets. They even had some for sale for anyone who needed them. I was feeling a little skittish and nervous about being on the boat, but our captain and guide (naturalist) put us all at ease quickly. I felt completely safe and secure, and was so impressed with the woman who was our guide. She was very knowledgeable and a certified naturalist. Really excellent! It was our favorite activity in the 5 days of our visit. We found a coupon on Travelzoo, but would happily pay full price to go again!

When we left the dock at Seaforth Landing we had no great expectations of seeing any whale, but we thought we would get to see plenty of dolphin. It was a fairly rough trip out, we probably went about 6 miles, but it was well worth it. We saw dolphin playing, stepping with the boat, and leaping 3-4 across to catch up with us. When the marine biologist told us we had four blue whale on the horizon we were amazed. The boat can only pull so close and then the whales have to come towards the boat. There were 14 whales around the boat at one time or another, and several more in the distance blowing. We never saw a fluke, but we kept cheering for one. What an amazing trip, these animals were probably as large as the boat we were on. The captain, crew and biologist onboard the Privateer were a really nice group. We got half price tickets if we go back, and we just might although I will be disappointed if we don't see at least 14 the next time. The people who were lying down because of rough seas will probably never see what we saw last week. Absolutely incredible, there are no words to tell you how we felt. Bonus: huge harbor seal posing on the harbor buoy.

I didn't think that September was the time to see whales off the Cali Coast, but we saw several! Beautiful, huge and majestic blue whales swimming around our boat. Amazing! The crew was excellent: friendly and very knowledgeable. We also saw pods of dolphins that swam along side us. I highly recommend this tour.
