San Diego Whale Watching Tour

Overview
Our trips depart from Mission Bay, which requires only a short 10 minute journey access to the open ocean where whales and dolphins can be seen! The search for whales and other animals begins as soon as you depart the dock and our marine biologists are on the microphone explaining exactly what to expect and what you are seeing from the get go!
Typically our trips are 2.5-3 hours in length, but time can vary based on seasons and locations of sightings.

I'm a local (well, after 13 years, I think I can claim that), this was my first trip whale watching in SD while my family visited. It was an amazing experience and beautiful day on the water. The crew was great - regular updates from the captain and guide, facts on the wildlife and region. We saw a lot of dolphins and unfortunately, a few whales from waaaaaaaay out. The company has "high standards" for what they consider whale watching so gave everyone a 50% off coupon to return in the future for a better whale view. Excited to go back with some local friends! Parking is on the street, super easy. The kiosk is a little hard to find, but right next to the fish & chips place on the marina side.

As a long time traveler with SD Whale Watch/Privateer I can say that the recent (within past weeks) move to a slightly different location, different booking procedures, and just about everything less the onboard experience is a big step down from before. Phones and emails go unanswered. Parking is less convenient. Pre-loading restrooms that were pointed out were not available. Pre-loading communication including the briefing inaudible. On-board experience is nearly the same as before and that is good.

Thanks for joining us recently and in the past Peter! With any alterations in procedure, there may be kinks to work out. We are sorry to hear that you did not find some of our changes to be beneficial. We are happy to say that with our recent move, we now have full access, accountability, flexibility and control of our company. This was not the case when we worked through a third-party dock ownership. During our brief transition, we quickly learned what works and what doesn't (including every point you've mentioned). We cannot wait to take the reins and show our passengers what it looks like when we have full control of our reservation system, phone lines and all aspects of customer service! We hope you'll join us again soon for another try, as we're incredibly glad that you are still happy with our crew and the on-board experience with them!

I went on a tour with my family and we had an amazing time. We were able to see large groups of dolphins and 2 minke whales. The crew were very knowledgeable and helpful. It is truly an exciting experience that both kids and adults would love.
