Having done the wine trolley tour in Napa, I also booked the trolley tour in Sonoma. Dillon was a terrific driver/guide - very knowledgeable, experienced and friendly. We visited 4 wineries, all quite different but Berringer was my stand out favourite, definitely a winery tour to remember ! Again, the lunch provided was delicious. Like Napa, touring wineries on your own is not easy, save yourself the hassle and go with Dillon, money well spent !

The initial tour price was very reasonable for a day of travel, tastings and lunch. The driver was lovely and the trolley was a novelty. We knew that tastings and gratuities were not included, however tastings ranged from $15-$30 and it would have been good to know this cost beforehand. It was also unfortunate that they took us to two wineries that were owned by the same family, so the wine was was very similar. If you are happy to pay nearly $200US for a sales pitch and still be seeking a wine bar when you finish the tour, then this is the tour for you.

My daughter and I spent one day doing vineyards on our own and one day with this tour. Our driver, Paul, was perfect (funny and knowledgeable!) and the experience was fun being on a cable car and developing a camaraderie with the guests. Above and beyond the $99 cost of the tour, you must pay for each tasting and you did feel forced into it. * I recommend opting out if you don't want to do the tasting at a particular place! Imagery vineyards was first and the art was great but the wine did not compare with other stops we had made the day before on our own. Stop 2 was the best of the day, Benzinger Vineyards and the the wine tasting, views and atmosphere was wonderful. They were proud of their organic farm and quality of production and it made us want to support them. Stop 3 with a chocolate tasting was good but we received no information about our experience, it was quite expensive( $35) and they were only involved to sell us wine. They certainly could have tried harder for $35. Stop 4 should be taken off the tour. I give it a D- for wine, experience and ambience. In conclusion I would alter the order of the tours and replace VJB vineyards with someone else more dynamic and educational. We do not all go on these tours to get drunk!
