DO NOT GO DURING CHRISTMAS TIME. 1 star is ONLY because it’s the best view in Manhattan. Otherwise, it is SO poorly run I can’t even begin to explain. No rhyme or reason whatsoever. Reservations don’t matter because anyone can go at any time. You’re on line for an hour outside, on lines for another hour to get to the elevator to go up. Once you’re up there for about 10-15 mins, you’re on an OBSCENE line AGAIN for an hour to take the elevator down. Mind you, there are four elevators total but only two running with hundreds of people waiting. An employee told us the other two open up at 6pm. It was 5:50. Why not open all elevators to make the process quicker? The employees are yelling at everyone directing them to the exit line, telling you to move up to “make the line move quicker” LOL. Anxiety central. Maybe it’s because it was Christmas time - fine - but an establishment that makes THAT much money needs to improve this process. As a New Yorker, I will never ever go to the top of the rock during Christmas time, or probably ever again. It diminished what was otherwise a wonderful day in the city.

Unless you want to queue to queue to queue, and to queue again and then do the same to come back down - don’t bother! You queue to book a time slot. You turn up and have to queue for 1 hour plus to get into the building. You then queue for 40 minutes to then join another 20 minute queue for the lift while some boring video that you can’t hear is playing. You then go to the top. Yes the views are spectacular but your so thirsty and tired you don’t really get to enjoy the experience. Then - oh my days, to come back down: you queue for 20 minutes in the cold to go on the escalator to the lift floor, you queue again for an hour to go down to ground level and then you have to work out how to get out of the building. Personally I wouldn’t bother, enjoy the photos others have taken. The staff are rude and not interested as this place is just a money making machine.
