Shawn's tour of KY horse country was interesting and informative. The farms and barns were beautiful and it was fun feeding treats to the expensive horses. We went on a Sunday afternoon and there wasn't anything going on at the barns. We didn't see any employees or horses out of their stalls at the barns. We were able to see and pet some that were in the pastures. Perhaps a different day of the week would be a better time to tour. Until recently, guests could sign up for Shawn's tours at the KY Horse Park, but that is no longer the case. It now may be hard to reach him by phone. His voice mail was full the day we called. Email might be a better option. His small bus was comfortable, but we smelled strong diesel fumes at our location near the door...so strong that I began to get a headache before the tour was over. If he had a speaker system, he didn't use it the day that we toured. He has a strong, booming voice, but I doubt that we could have heard him clearly had we been seated toward the rear of the bus.

I had already done so much during my long weekend in Lexington: races at Keeneland, Bourbon Tour at Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace, riding Tennesse Walkers at the Big Red Stables. I had a free morning before our afternoon flight home. One of my friends had done this tour and recommended it. I called the phone number at 10:30 p.m. the night before. I fully expected a voice recording. Shaun Washington himself picked up the phone and put me in on his 9 a.m. tour. We went to three beautiful horse farms that enhanced my knowledge of the area. And Shaun himself is a wonderful, colorful personality that made the tour even more enjoyable.

We toured 2 horse farms with Shaun outside of Lexington. This is the first tour of this nature that we had ever taken. We loved being able to walk through the stables and actually pet the horses. We were in the breeding shed and learned all about the breeding process, which was very interesting. Shaun was a topnotch guide. He was very professional as well as entertaining. If you are visiting the Lexington area, we would highly recommend a tour with Unique Horse Farm Tours.
