As others have noted, Shawn makes this tour much better than it otherwise might be. He certainly enjoyes what he does and it shows through. His knowledge of the area and operations could not be greater. We visited 2 properties and Keeneland track. Normally a stop is made at Calumet but the owner was in town this week. Instead we went to Shadwell Farm that is owned by a Sheihk and a very impressive operation! First stop was at KatieRich Farms. Both places we got out and could get up close and even pet these expensive horses and foals. Great tour that I would do again and recommend to all.

I booked this tour over the other tour companies based on two simple things- 1) a review I read on a mommy blog and 2) I called all the horse farm tours and the personnel on the pone for Unique Horse Farm Tours were the most polite and helpful. I am happy to say I feel I chose the right company. Our tour began at KY Horse Park. Shawn Washington, our tour guide is a wealth of knowledge about all the farms in the area and so many horses. He has worked in the industry most of his life and has such an enthusiasm for telling/teaching visitors about the horse community, showing them around beautiful farms and getting them up close to these beautiful animals. On our tour we visited 3 farms. (Katierich and 2 others...maybe 3 others) We got to see fowls, fillies, yearlings and a few stallions. He didn't waste time by taking us to Keeneland as it is free for visitors anyway. Most of the people on the tour were in their 50s and up so I was worried at first that my younger family---or at least my kids wouldn't have much fun. I was so wrong. They loved every minute and I think they learned quite a bit. At Katierich each of my kids was given a horseshoe. They were super excited about that. Moral of the story is....Kids and adults love the tour and Shawn will not disappoint!!

If you are in Lexington to visit horse country, this tour is a "must do." It is hosted by the friendly, comical, and hospitable Shawn Washington, who drives you into the experience by sharing many of his own stories. He knows several farm owners personally, so much so the have named thoroughbreds after his children. He takes you beyond the security gates of million dollar farms, shows you stables fit for a king, and takes you on an intimate tour of Calumet Farms. You get to pet and interact with the horses at one stop too! The tour is convenient as you can purchase tickets at the KY Horse Park and the airconditioned bus picks you up at the front gate.
