My husband and 2 children have been kayaking before but this included so much more. What made it great was our tour guide John. His instructions were clear on what we needed to know to make it a safe excursion there and back. The kayaking was enough of a challenge as we made our way on the river to where we would exit and start our hike. The hike to the falls and pool was beautiful. We stopped along the way so John could point out the different plants, flowers (one that was safe to eat), trees and fruits. He showed us where the pigs forage the floors for food (he said they only come out at night, thank goodness). He was very helpful and considerate of the young family that went with us (they had a 5 and 8 year old). He made all the kids a bamboo fish out of the leaves which they all enjoyed, mine brought them home with them! His knowledge of the island made the trip an educational as well as adventurous one. I recommend Duke's Kayaking Adventure for anyone that wants to kayak, hike, swim and learn about this great island.

When I think of Hawaii, I envision tropical forests, unique foliage, waterfalls and abundant flowers. Duke's Kayak Adventure through Wailua river, hike into the tropical forest and swim under Secret Falls is everything Hawaii is about. Our guide Andre kept us enthralled with stories and facts about the river and forest. Yes, we walked through some muddy areas but that was part of the adventure. So much fun, it really made our Kauai trip perfect!

Dukes was recommended by a concierge we used while on the Island and the experience was fun. This is not a trip for the sedentary or timid, however, and they don't tell you that when you book. We took an afternoon trip w/Evan as our guide. He was friendly, helpful, knowledgable and added a lot to the trip. The kayak paddle is 2 miles each way up the Wailua River. The 3 mile hike to a waterfall was treacherous on the day we went. It was really muddy the whole way. Be sure to wear appropriate shoes and loads of bug repellent. Our hike was scary for some (lots of slipping and sliding and some falling in the mud) and many people turned around. Our group was small (6 people) and I suggest going with as few as possible as you have to wait for the slowest people in the group. The journey is way better than the payoff as at the end of the trail you see Secret Falls. It doesn't feel very secret as there are lots of other people on tours at the same place. And Kauai is not short on waterfalls, so it isn't all that special. We did, however, want the kayak trip and this was perfect. In November, the sea kayaking off of Na Pali is really dangerous, so the river was a great alternative.
