Ulysses was an amazing guide and showed us a side of LA we never knew existed. Not only the food but the culture/history and anthropology of LA. The food we tasted was exceptional, but that does not capture the entire experience which included history, art, culture.... The walking was not grueling even on a very hot day and it really was a great way to experience the city. Food highlights included the fish tacos, tea ceremony, banh mi, mochi, and Japanese street food. We have done walks with CB in Instanbul, Shanghai, and Benjing and this is as good as any we've ever had. We are highly recommending this Walk to everyone we know visiting LA.

Thank you for the thoughtful review and recommendation, we are so happy to see that you enjoyed the backstreets of LA with Ulysses. Each of our culinary walks is the outcome of considerable research. We work with academics in the field and our own team of experienced professionals – both guides and local journalists. We are proud to support businesses that we believe in, helping to preserve the social and cultural fabric of the cities we love so dearly. Most importantly, of course, we take pride in working with people like Ulysses who are very knowledgeable about and extremely fond of the cities they live in. You can check out your Culinary Backstreets Passport on our website to see the stamps you have collected. We hope to see you again soon in one of our cities.

We had an outstanding experience - as expected - from the new LA Food Tour hosted by the Culinary Backstreets. I have never taken tours with this company, but the overwhelming reviews from other cities made me look forward to this foolproof tour. We were highly satisfied by our LA food tour. It had a great mix of culture, history, and food stories that were relevant. I love how the guides customize the tour based on their audience. I also enjoy that the groups are small (we were 4 total). It allowed us direct access to our guide (Ulysses). He had a vested interest in the food & culture as a graduate student & recent filmmaker (documentary). We were able to get a taste of LA food scene without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated. I highly recommend this tour if you are are interested in cultural experiences, you are interested in quality over quantity, & are willing to keep an open mind! We can't wait to go on another culinary backstreet tour in a different city. P.S.: Don't forget to tip your guide :)

I've lived in LA for 7 years and this tour was a revelation! I've passed by some of the stops we made in Chinatown and elsewhere and had no idea what amazing food was on offer. And our guide, Ulysses, was incredibly knowledgeable -- not just about the various offerings (from vegan pastries to formal tea ceremonies to wicked pupusas) but also about the cultures from which they spring. He took the experience to next level cultural anthropology and it was fascinating. Highly recommended and worth the somewhat pricey price.
