We just returned from a five-night stay in Chicago, during which we rode the Big Bus Hop-on Hop-off a couple of times. We generally are fans of this service, having ridden them in Barcelona, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
In the past, the bus featured either a live tour guide or a recording. In this case, the service included a recording that was occasionally interrupted by the driver of the bus for highlights. The bus drivers' comments were welcome and informational. However, in this instance, someone had apparently made the executive decision to produce a tour recording that, rather than being appropriate for an adult audience, was aimed at ten-year-olds. The recording was full of loud sound effects, cutesy-wootsey comments, and in my opinion was not conducive to enjoying the tour.
In addition, the recording was played out the speakers on top of the bus at such a loud audio level that it was full of distortion, and we finally had to abandon the bus in the middle of the city due to headaches. The constant, loud, high-pitched squealing of the bus's brakes in city traffic did not help this at all.
Please, please re-produce the tour recording to be less like a Saturday morning cartoon show, and more like what it used to be; an informative description of the sights we are seeing on the tour.
And get your brakes serviced.
