Overview

Our daytime historic tour is a story of Pirates and Puritans, Witchcraft and War. We travel around the city of Salem and share the tales of its amazing history. From its humble beginnings as a city founded on the idea of peace for all, to the site of the largest incident of witchcraft hysteria in the modern world, learn how it became one of the biggest shipping ports in America, played host to some of the most famous authors of all time, and learn some of the biggest secrets this city has to offer!

Our daytime walking tour lasts about an hour and forty five minutes, and covers a mile's worth of the downtown area. It is an easy walk, but we suggest comfortable shoes and clothing to match the season. Our tours are unscripted, and can be customized to every group's particular areas of interest!

Your guide will meet you at the Axelrod Walkway park at 28 Charter Street, next to the Peabody Essex Museum, located across the street from the Witchcraft Trials Memorial and Old Burying Point Cemetery Welcome Center.

This is the best tour you will get of Salem. Period. My wife and I were fortunate enough to be the only ones on a historic tour of Salem and we were blown away by how knowledgeable, gregarious, and personable our tour guide, Lara, was throughout the two-hour tour. The wealth of knowledge and insight Lara had was amazing and rather than provide us with some cookie-cuttered, scripted tour, she catered our experience to what we were most interested in learning about. For example, I am a high school English teacher and after I had told her she focused much of tour around Arthur Miller's The Crucible, and on writers like Nathaniel Hawthorne, Edgar Allan Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, among others. She is not only a tour guide, but she is also a deeply dedicated historian and scholar of all things Salem. Her enthusiasm for the subject was infectious. There's not much else to say beyond that. I highly recommend Black Cat Tours.

Have been to Salem many times, and cannot wait to take another tour with this group. Dan was our guide and he has a wealth of knowledge about Salem that would put other's to shame.
