Black Cat Historical Day Tour

Overview
Our daytime historic tour is a story of Pirates and Puritans, Witchcraft and War.  We travel around the city of Salem and share the tales of its amazing history.  From its humble beginnings as a city founded on the idea of peace for all, to the site of the largest incident of witchcraft hysteria in the modern world, learn how it became one of the biggest shipping ports in America, played host to some of the most famous authors of all time, and learn some of the biggest secrets this city has to offer!

Our daytime walking tour lasts about an hour and forty five minutes, and covers a mile's worth of the downtown area. It is an easy walk, but we suggest comfortable shoes and clothing to match the season. Our tours are unscripted, and can be customized to every group's particular areas of interest!

We took the tour and got a very personalized account of the ghost history of Salem! Dan was our guide, and he brought to life the scenes, streets, and houses that were on our 90 minute tour. What I liked best was how Dan told the stories from a personal point of view. He did not "try too hard to be scary," and let the history speak for itself. He was a very engaging tour guide, and worked well with members in our group!

*Tonight, if anybody's reading this on 8/20/17, is a special Lovecraft-themed tour on the event of his birthday. Based on my experience a few days ago I wish I could attend this one; would love to hear even more.* I went with a few friends, merging with a couple of small groups at the point where we met Daniel, our guide. His tour was excellent, well-researched and very specific without the earmarks of a script. He absolutely connects with the whole group, knows and cares greatly about what he's talking about, and is amenable to any question you might have about the places so soaked in atmosphere that he'll tell you about. I asked him a few questions about Lovecraft connections that were met with totally interesting anecdotes. The context he gave to tie various historical figures you may have heard about together is great, and he managed to bring the era to life over a couple of hours more effectively than a Witchcraft course I took at NYU a few years ago! He was kind enough to stick around and give a couple insistent groups (us) some great additional information after the tour had concluded. Both historical and pertaining to..the remaining abundant nightlife in Salem! Would definitely go back, I have a feeling you'd get something unique each time.

Dan was a wonderful tour guide! I am a Salem resident and did not have high expectations for one of these tours, but I was so entertained and learned so much about my own neighborhood! Great mix of history and ghostly tales. I highly recommend it and will be sending all of my visitors on it!
