Black Cat Historical Day Tour

Overview
Our daytime historic tour is a story of Pirates and Puritans, Witchcraft and War.  We travel around the city of Salem and share the tales of its amazing history.  From its humble beginnings as a city founded on the idea of peace for all, to the site of the largest incident of witchcraft hysteria in the modern world, learn how it became one of the biggest shipping ports in America, played host to some of the most famous authors of all time, and learn some of the biggest secrets this city has to offer!

Our daytime walking tour lasts about an hour and forty five minutes, and covers a mile's worth of the downtown area. It is an easy walk, but we suggest comfortable shoes and clothing to match the season. Our tours are unscripted, and can be customized to every group's particular areas of interest!

I emailed a request for a private guide for a freezing day in March (wind chill factor of 10 degrees) for a walking tour of Salem. I heard back from Salem Black Cat Tours within an hour, and the next day Daniel greeted us at Noon for a truly unforgettable adventure. Dan is an amazing fellow who knows the area so well that he was even able to walk the entire route backwards! (I’m not kidding, 99% backwards, he knows every crevice and low hanging branch… he only asked that if someone with a chain saw appeared behind him, we should give him some warning). Daniel does the backwards thing for two reasons: First, because “he can” and he’s proud of it; but second, because he wants to engage his audience at every moment. And that was great for us because he is smart and funny and chock full of information… and he enjoys his work and looks the part too (you can’t beat that combination). Dan also advised my college-attending son of all the great places to visit with his college mates when they return at a future date: where the musicians set up, the best restaurants, the beautiful piers and the best “witch shops” & associated entertainment (if they were interested). A truly great tour; I can't say enough about Salem and Dan and the Tour Service - and this was in the wind on a freezing day!

We had the owner of the company give us the tour. He was great and a lot of fun. We went in the end of September. The other tour groups were slammed but we had a small group. The more intimate setting made it a much better experience. We crossed a few other tours and they were really annoying and the people didn't seem to be enjoying it as much as we were. Our tour guide was able to share with us his own personal experiences which made it that much better. He was also extremely knowledgeable about all things Salem. Not to mention they also have a great shop too!

This was my first ghost tour and my daughters 3rd, and I have to say we loved every minute of it! Daniel was extremely knowledgeable and very well spoken. The tour included witch history, ghostly hauntings, Salem and some Boston history as well as some pirate history. I loved the smaller group, everyone was able to hear what he had to say. We passed two other tours and they were very large (had to speak thru a microphone) and seemed very "kitschy" meaning they were holding props and didn't seem authentic in their addressing their groups. I am happy we chose Salem Black Cat Tours and would highly recommend them to anyone! Thank you Daniel! Oh and we had originally booked the 2 pm tour but decided we wanted to do the night tour and they happily allowed us to switch! Great customer service!!!!! One more add...this was my daughters first time in Salem, my 2nd. I told Daniel when I was young, my mother had taken us to Salem, which I remember and we saw Johnny Cash walking down the street. We pulled over and met him and he was very nice. Daniel knew that Johnny Cash had relatives or a relative buried in Salem and he often visited Salem. I thought that was awesome knowledge, one I never knew.
