Overview

Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. What To Expect

Amelia Island

The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

I can’t say enough about how great our tour was!! our tour guide was simply amazing so informative! The time seem to fly by we we’re so glad we did this tour! We gained so much knowledge of this Historic town. It is a MUST of things to do... do it first then you can return to the places that interested you the most.

Daniel was an excellent tour guide who told many interesting stories about the history of the town and the people who’ve lived there. He is an Irishman who has a very good sense of humor and keeps things fun on the tour. We were also given some great restaurant recommendations by Daniel as we left the tour. Please note that you do stay on the van for the entire 90 minute tour.

Michael was an excellent tour guide, and did a great job of holding the attention of my two teenage sons. This is a great tour to take at the start of your vacation because it gives you a wonderful overview of the island. Michael was funny, patient, and a wonderful storyteller - we learned so much, and will definitely be back for another tour when we return!
