Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. What To Expect

Amelia Island

The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

What a wonderful tour Eight Flags Road Tour is! I certainly recommend it to all visitors to Amelia’s island because their appreciation for this quaint place will increase as they learn the intricate history behind it. Our tour guide Daniel was simply delightful! A factual and resourceful narrator, one can listen to him hours at a time! The van was comfortable, neat and we were safely distanced. The sites we visited were just as intriguing as the stories behind them. I am so very happy I selected this tour during our stay at Amelia’s Island!

Such a great tour! Daniel was amazing in his knowledge of the history of Amelia Island, while making it fun, too! Being in a van allowed us to see many parts of the city, with him explaining things as we enjoyed looking at the beautiful and interesting sites. My sister and I are so very glad we chose this tour!
