Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

This tour is amazing! I know that our group got especially lucky the night we saw the mantas. We watched the mantas (15-20 of them) flip in front of our faces for the entire 25 minutes we were in the water. The guides said that they hadn't seen a show like this in quite some time. I was a little concerned that I would be scared in the water, but the mantas are very majestic animals. When I was in the water with mantas 12 inches from my face, I wasn't worried at all. It was amazing, beautiful, and truly an unforgettable experience. I would recommend buying a waterproof case or cover for your phone. I got some great photos and video just using my iPhone. Of course, I have to give a shoutout to the AMAZING crew on our ship- Dusty and Chad! They were informative, fun, and SUPER helpful!

This tour is amazing not only because of magnificent Manta rays but also because of the guys who were taking care of us on a boat. They have provided us all necessary knowledge about both Manta rays as well as all possible risks while snorkeling during the night which made this trip even more valuable. Would highly recommend taking this tour with those guys.

What would you do if, while floating in the black ocean, a 9-foot manta ray came within 8 inches of your face? If you're me you giggle uncontrollably. No matter how you might react, this is an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our guides were high energy, knowledgeable, and focused on safety. Though I don't think either was technically a "naturalist" as indicated in the description, they knew a lot about the rays and wanted to make sure the manta's were able to behave naturally without too much disruption (e.g. no touching). This is a green operation and they take that seriously. Happy to give them my $$ and we had an awesome time.
