Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

My family really lucked out as we did the late afternoon Manta Ray trip and we had the entire boat to ourselves. It seems most people do the later trip that leaves at 7:30 p.m. but ours left the dock at around 4:30 p.m. which allowed us to be at the Manta grounds a bit after 5. The big advantage to that time is you have the grounds basically to yourself until the masses hit there around 6:45 p.m. We were in the water at around 5:20 and immediately spotted a Manta right below the boat. We snorkeled around viewing the fish and then the big show (where the Mantas come to play) started around 6:45 or so. It was fantastic and our guides Dusty and Dylan were really great, helpful and very interesting (both are locals and can fill you in not only about the Mantas but any island questions you might have). They also worked very hard to make sure you have a great experience which we certainly did! Many thanks to both Dusty and Dylan and don't miss this tour!

Our family of three had an amazing time with Chad and Dusty (on June 14, 2018), and we saw countless manta rays during our Night Manta Ray Snorkel adventure. It was truly awe-inspiring to see these magnificent manta rays and even feel them brush against us. My only complaint is that I've emailed Hawaii Oceanic twice to ask when the photos from our experience would be available, and I've never even received a reply. We'd really like a few pics to remember our time with the manta rays.

We saw tons of HUGE rays. They literally brushed up against us again and again, feeding on the plankton. The captain and his associate were true professionals; helpful, informative, and entertaining. The ride out and back can be a wee bit rough, as the craft is small; but this as an amazing tour. To be honest, I was skeptical at first, doubting we would see rays, and if so, even get close. Boy was I wrong! Keep in mind the outfit's guarantee; you will see rays. We saw them on the first time. I want to guess there was literally 20 of them. A couple of them had a wing span of over 6 foot. I believe the captain and his mate were judging their size conservatively on the ride back, these things looked HUGE to me. It's truly an amazing experience you won't regret.
