Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

My wife and I took our two teenage daughters on this trip after reading the reviews. The entire family loved the excursion. It does get a little cold after the sun goes down, so wear the wet suit. Dusty and Chad were great guides and did a great job interacting with everyone. I was able to snorkel almost the entire time were were out. Once it started getting dark a lot of other groups appeared and all seemed to work very well with with each other. Chad was great and taking us around the bay to find the manta rays. I was able to see several manta rays and get very close. It was amazing seeing them doing flips in the water. I would recommend this trip and Hawaii Oceanic if you are going to Big Island.

I have had the privilege of swimming with mantas in Thailand and Fiji. The night snorkel hosted by Hawaii Oceanic was fantastic! Chad and his boat captain gave us thorough information and our experience was a once in lifetime, bucket list one! I squealed with joy at the close up balllet of 4-5 manta rays that brushed my fingers as I held on to the board. I highly recommend this tour!

Dusty and Chad were amazing guides. Both were super friendly and informative and made the experience comfortable and fun. The manta ray snorkel was phenomenal, we were lucky to hang out with five of them! We got a great view of them as they did back flips. It was a surreal experience and most likely the highlight of our trip. It was definitely worth every penny for this activity, especially with Hawaii Oceanic! The crew is fantastic and they care about the wellbeing of the animals as well.
