Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview

Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

The Manta Snorkel was an unbelievable experience! We are so glad we booked with Hawaii Oceanic. We chose them because they were a GreenList company which was important to us, and they did not disappoint. The captain and crew (Dusty and Dylan) were friendly, helpful and funny! They really made us feel welcome and at ease. When we were leave the marina we were able to see a tiger shark and some spinner dolphins which was an excellent bonus before heading to the site! It was great to be able to get to the site early and snorkel for a while during the day before night fell. We were able to see a few mantas during the day, but once night fell, they REALLY came out! I think we had about 5-6 swimming around us at one time, doing barrel rolls, and we were treated to a great grand finale with one manta doing 5 barrel rolls mere centimeters from our face! They provided wet suits which made the dip in the water and the night ride back not too chilly. All and all it was a fantastic experience, and we would recommend Hawaii Oceanic to anyone who wants to get up close and personal with mantas! Mahalo for an excellent time!

We recently went on a late night Manta Ray snorkeling trip with Dusty and Dylan. They made a decision at the start of the outbound trip to go for a location that paid off big time as we saw quite a lot of Mantas (at least 6-7 really big ones and one of them was apparently the 3rd biggest one known in the area). It was surreal seeing how the Mantas kept doing their "belly flops" right within inches of my face while still managing to avoid hitting me! The inbound trip was quite choppy, but that's just the luck of the draw with the weather. Kudos to Dusty and Dylan for still keeping it enjoyable as much as they can and, most importantly, us safe. The group that we went with was a fun one too, which helped. Just something to keep in mind if you're easily sea-sick so you can prepare accordingly. For us, it was worth it and I'm glad that I went with Hawaii Oceanic because these guys really knew what they were doing. Shout out to Jason who helped us with everything at the office before the tour too.

Dusty and Dillon run a great adventure with their manta magic tour. We were so lucky and saw the show of a lifetime with 5 or 6 manta rays doing barrel rolls inches away from our bodies. Took our breath away it was so exhilarating. The ocean was rough when we went but hardly noticed it when hanging onto the light board lead by Dillon. Snorkelling prior would have been better if not so rough and Dillon had to lead me back to the boat as I’m not a strong swimmer-but he sure is leading back people twice his size! I felt very safe with this company and they are eco friendly. We can hardly wait to see the pictures they took of our tour.
