Manta Magic - Night Manta Ray Snorkel At Manta Village, Kona, Hawaii

Overview
Avoid the crowds of the other "cattle boats" in Kona, and enjoy a small-group manta ray snorkeling experience with a maximum of 12 passengers.

This tour departs from Keahou Harbor in South Kona and enjoys a short 5-minute boat ride to our snorkeling site, Manta Village.

Your Captain and snorkel guide will educate you on Kona's famous manta rays and will discuss our safe and humane approach to engaging with the gentle giants.

After entering the water, you'll hold onto our lightboard, with your feet propped up by floatation devices, as the manta rays perform a graceful ballet beneath you. The manta rays filter feed on plankton that naturally gathers at the surface just before sunset, then accumulates underneath our lights. This is an opportunity to enjoy an evening on the water and watch in amazement as the manta rays glide around and dance for you.

We are proud to be a Green Listed company, and we take an environmentally cautious approach to our interactions with the manta rays.

We had a wonderful experience thanks to Dusty and Dylan. I love that they are a green company striving to preserve this experience for generations to come. The Manta Magic tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! The crew was knowledgeable, caring and fun. I loved being a part of a smaller group and the manta rays were so graceful and amazing!! I had no idea they would come so close - it almost looks as though it is going to eat your face then turns and barrel rolls so closely that I was sure it was going to brush me. A breath taking experience that I would recommend to anyone! There were a few in our group who were not accomplished swimmers but were made to feel at ease by the care given to them by the crew. 5+!! Thank you for a wonderful evening!

Manta Ray experience on the 11th of December 2017. I would honestly book with Hawaii Oceanic anytime in the future and would recommend to all my friends back home to book with them too, if they are ever in Kona. The team was absolutely amazing, Captain Dusty and Dylan were there to help anyone that needed it and were always up for a chat. I was the only person that was doing the trip solo on this tour (we had 12 people) and you quickly make friends with everyone and they definitely looked after me. Captain Dusty even offered to be in my photo, that they take at the start of the trip so I wouldn't be by myself, unfortunately I didn't quite hear properly, otherwise I definitely would have taken him up on the offer. That's just one of the little interactions that the crew had with me that meant I was feeling included the entire time. The Mantas themselves are definitely something to behold. The last one barrel-rolled so close to the light board I was pretty sure it was going to accidentally touch me with it's wings. Luckily, it has a good sense of direction and just went under, but definitely something very special and that I will remember forever. The plankton build up (what attracts the Mantas) was slow to begin with, so Dylan helped readjust our light board so the plankton could build up and the Mantas eagerly came! It is important to find a green-rated tour, as this helps protect the natural habitat of the Mantas and the Mantas themselves. Hawaii Oceanic is a green tour and they are definitely about making sure that the Mantas come first and this does not take away from the experience at all, but rather adds to it. Overall - would definitely recommend. Captain Dusty and Dylan were the best crew and helped everything go smoothly so we could all truly enjoy the Mantas!

This was an activity that we had wanted to do, so we were very excited to find a Groupon and availability during our vacation. After we arrived they had us get suited up in wetsuits. It was was chilly in the water, so that was a nice feature. There were about 11 snorkelers on our boat, including myself. I am not a very experienced swimmer and have never snorkeled in the past, and I was definitely a little fearful about it, but really wanted to have this experience. Thankfully, Dylan was very good about making me feel better about it. He offered to help me out to the float if I needed the help. It wasn't necessary. With encouragement and some time to get brave, I joined the group in the water. They do have swim noodles to help you get to the float if needed and to help you keep your feet up. I'm so glad that I did! During our time in the water we were able to see 3 Manta Rays. One of them swam right up to our faces. The boat ride is very fast and choppy. They did have motion sickness medicine that they offered before leaving if I felt like it could be an issue. I had brought my own, so all was good. There were snacks offered while on the boat trip. The guides were very knowledgable and gave us a lot of information about Manta Rays and about snorkeling before we went into the water. I feel that this was the best company to take this tour with. They offered so much support and really helped me enjoy the experience completely. I think because they are a smaller company and don't have as many people on the boat that there are more opportunities to interact with those on the tour. I highly recommend Hawaiian Oceanic if you're wanting to do this activity. You won't be disappointed.
