We did this tour back in 2004 before having kids and there was no way we were going to miss out on the opportunity to do it again.
We actually arrived about an hour early but once through security they allocated us on the next but one helicopter so there was not waiting around.
The trip isn’t cheap but it clearly gives you a view of the city that you can’t get anywhere else. Do also bear in mind the heliport taxes and an additional cost if you want to buy a photo. It soon adds up for a family of four!
Disappointingly they did sit our youngest / smallest in the centre seat on the back row so he wasn’t afforded the best view but he seemed happy enough.
The only real complaint we had throughout was that one of the headphones for my children didn’t work so she actually heard none of the tour, which was a shame but with so much to look at it didn’t really impact it the memory of it all.
Leaving the heliport you get excellent views of Brooklyn and Downtown Manhattan as you approach and round the Statue of Liberty, from there you travel up the Hudson with Union City to the West and views past the Empire State, past Central Park and all the way up to the Yankees Stadium and George Washington Bridge.
My photos didn’t really do the trip justice but in my opinion you really are missing out if you do not experience this whilst in NYC.
