Overview

Amelia Island is full of rich history, and is the only location in America to have flown 8 independent flags. It’s rich history takes us on a journey through time including the Timucuan Indians who were our first inhabitants as far back as 2000 BC. The flags tell the story of religious struggle and persecution, the effect of Christianity disallowing any other God to be worshiped. The devastating impact of the Revolutionary war on the island and rebels acting in the name of higher power. Smugglers, slave traders and pirates have all had a part to play in the evolution of this Islands growth. This fascinating tour will take you on a journey through time and show you how such a small barrier island has had a major and little know impact on the history of America. What To Expect

Amelia Island

The eight flags tour takes you on a historical journey through all of the locations that those flags have flown over the islands incredible history. The only location in America to have had this number of independent flags. You will travel through the historic downtown district and out to the original Fernandina. On our journey we will cover each of the flags, the period from which they flew and the historical significance behind all of those dates from a historical perspective.

Wonderful tour-- Daniel was our tour guide. My mother (87 y.o.) & I were taking a joint birthday trip to the island & I invited a friend & her 84 y.o. mom to travel there, too. Asked them to join us on tour of island. Tour van was exceptionally clean & air-conditioned. It was very comfortable with plenty of room (& we were all sizes...lol!). We were offered water. For elderly patrons, especially, Daniel had a step stool to help get into the van. Daniel was a wonderful speaker -- his insights & background into the various sites on the island & in the historic district were wonderful. Not only did he bring the past to life, he was also able to ad lib & discuss questions that we were asking him. He knew his stuff! He was an excellent speaker -- the tour lasted an hour & a half & yet his voice remained steady, strong, & unbroken throughout. His discussion points were seamless. Overall, it was an entertaining & insightful tour. We went on the tour early in our stay & it actually helped us as we explored things for the rest of the week! We all would encourage all ages to take the tour.

My husband and I did this tour in January with friends. Daniel was our guide. It was FANTASTIC! So much knowledge and great sense of humor. Our adult son just came for a visit and so I booked the tour again. We had a nice man from Sweden…..it was BORING! No interesting facts, no sense of humor. If you do book this, ask for Daniel, you won’t be sorry.
