This review is the whole reason I have finally signed up to Trip Advisor!
I received an email from Liberty Helicopter's, asking me to leave a review and I think it's really important that before you fork out hundreds of £/$, people are aware of the service I received. I must also say that I did contact Liberty twice, before writing this, and after receiving no response, I have decided to let everyone know!
We had a flight booked for Wednesday 16th Jan, which I booked back in November as a Christmas present. Two days before our flight I received an email that was so poorly written, I was certain it was a scam. It made absolutely no sense, I was so close to deleting it but called to be sure, and it was confirmed that our flight was to be cancelled and we had to pick another day.
We had planned our whole trip around the helicopter ride, and I specifically booked it on the first day in case there were issues with weather etc. We therefore had to miss other experiences to accommodate this last minute change. Liberty were not very apologetic or understanding of the real inconvenience that this caused.
Once we arrived in New York, we happened to be down in the Staten Island ferry area where there were people selling helicopter rides, and we (luckily we were in the right place at the right time) mentioned how we already had one booked for Friday. The very helpful gentleman who did not work for Liberty Helicopters, advised us that due to weather, flights were likely to be cancelled on Friday and to see if we could make it Thursday instead. After receiving no warning of this from Liberty, we decided to pop in to the port where no one was available. I called and rebooked for the second time, and although they were accommodating, I don't feel I should have had to chase them for this information.
Obviously the weather is not their fault, completely out of anyone's control, but it seemed they had no intention of letting us know we needed to reschedule. We would have had to go home, and we would have missed out, and a Christmas present ruined.
I would so recommend a helicopter ride, although they are very expensive (you don't even get a complimentary locker!). Our pilot was great, the view is breath taking, probably a once in a life time opportunity. Just don't book with Liberty Helicopters.
