Private Whitney Plantation, Museum of Slavery, and St Joseph Plantation Tour

Overview
This is a small narrated private tour by van, for groups of up to 12 travelers. At Whitney Plantation's Louisiana Museum of Slavery, see the harsh realities and raw historical facts of a dark side of American history. The slave narratives and artwork recreate the world of a pre-Civil War southern sugar plantation and memorial in honor of the lives of the enslaved people who toiled there. A short ride through sugar cane fields leads to St. Joseph Plantation, a Creole style family-owned working sugar cane plantation. Family members give a relaxed, intimate tour of their ancestral home and dependencies (including original slave cabins).

The Whitney Plantation is something everyone should see. The exhibits and narratives of life on the plantation are sobering. We absorbed the history of the plantation and walked through the plantation with a self-guided tour. We had a private driver from Isabelleā€™s who shared a lot of New Orleans history and information about current life in the city driving to/from the plantations. He used to be a chef, so he knew all about the New Orleans food scene which we loved hearing about too. He also took us to St Josephā€™s plantation where we had a excellent in-person guide with a wealth of knowledge. I highly recommend going in a private tour with Isabelleā€™s.

From the start, I had instant communication with Isabelle, and she contacted me throughout the booking. On the day of the tour, we were picked up promptly at the hotel by Giselle. She is extremely knowledgeable and provided an outstanding tour. The 5 hours just flew! Thank you for the fabulous day.

Rene is the best tour guide I have ever experienced in my many years of travel. His passion and knowledge of New Orleans made the tour so much fun and informative. The van was comfortable and made our tour so convenient with hotel pick up. The amount of time allotted for each plantation was perfect. We got to do everything that we wanted to do without having to wait. I would definitely recommend tours by Isabelle. And you MUST request Rene!
