Private Whitney Plantation, Museum of Slavery, and St Joseph Plantation Tour

Overview
This is a small narrated private tour by van, for groups of up to 12 travelers. At Whitney Plantation's Louisiana Museum of Slavery, see the harsh realities and raw historical facts of a dark side of American history. The slave narratives and artwork recreate the world of a pre-Civil War southern sugar plantation and memorial in honor of the lives of the enslaved people who toiled there. A short ride through sugar cane fields leads to St. Joseph Plantation, a Creole style family-owned working sugar cane plantation. Family members give a relaxed, intimate tour of their ancestral home and dependencies (including original slave cabins).

Isabel and Rene were absolutely wonderful. After booking the trip, I received a text from Isabelle giving me further instructions for the tour. Rene picked us up from our selected hotel on time. The van was clean and well air conditioned. On the way to the first plantation Rene gave us great information about New Orleans, Katrina, sugar cane, slaves and more. He is also very sweet and funny! Whitney plantation was amazing. It was a self guided tour. We were provided an umbrella to block the sun and audio phones to listen to a pre-recorded tour. This tour was outside. The second plantation tour was just as interesting. It was inside the main building. This part of the tour was air conditioned. On our way back home, Rene gave us all great recommendations for bars and hotels. I am really glad I took this tour. So worth it!

We loved the Whitney plantation, a great museum from the perspective of the enslaved workers. We also had an excellent time with tourguide RenƩ, he has the best stories!
