Private Whitney Plantation, Museum of Slavery, and St Joseph Plantation Tour

Overview
This is a small narrated private tour by van, for groups of up to 12 travelers. At Whitney Plantation's Louisiana Museum of Slavery, see the harsh realities and raw historical facts of a dark side of American history. The slave narratives and artwork recreate the world of a pre-Civil War southern sugar plantation and memorial in honor of the lives of the enslaved people who toiled there. A short ride through sugar cane fields leads to St. Joseph Plantation, a Creole style family-owned working sugar cane plantation. Family members give a relaxed, intimate tour of their ancestral home and dependencies (including original slave cabins).

Isabelle was great with communicating the particulars of the tour and what we would need for the day of the tour well in advance. On the day of the tour John was awesome! John picked me up from my hotel on time. From the moment our small group departed, he educated our small group about New Orleans along the way. John’s knowledge of the historical events of the area was phenomenal. The tours of Whitney and St Joseph were very informative. Whitney plantation tells the story from the view of the slave, whereas St. Joseph from the view of the owners. Whitney Plantation has an awesome audio tour. The guide at St. Joseph was friendly and very knowledgeable. I love that our group was small. Though I knew none of the other tour participants, we all bonded in the moment of the day thanks to John! The 5 hour day was well worth it and highly recommended!!

I bought a group of 10 college students from Chicago to New Orleans for a service learning trip. This tour was the perfect start to the 2-week experience. The most memorable part of this tour was the approach Whitney has in providing an accurate and realistic view of what life was really like for the slaves, and leading one to support family and friends whose ancestors had to live under these conditions. Our tour guide Rene was also the best! Not only did he engage us in historical and moving conversations about plantation life, but he also provided recommendations for restaurants and other activities. I will be bringing future groups back! Isabella is also a joy to work with. Everything was perfect and she even got a booster seat for my young son to sit safely in the tour van.
